Treasures
I love a good story. Give me a good action adventure and I am off to another world for a small time. It needs plot twists and possible treasure of some type and BAM, I’m in. When you hear the word treasure, what do you think of? Silver and Gold, a magic lamp or something else? Good question. God talks about treasure also.
Lay Up Treasures in Heaven
Matthew 6:19-21
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Where your treasure is, there your heart is. That is quite the statement. Think about it. There are reality TV shows about finding lost treasures. People take their life savings and go in debt to find it. Spend a lifetime seeking and losing family and friends because it consumes every waking moment. In the end most walk away with nothing and waste all that they have. We do see some find that treasure and all of a sudden people seek to take it from them. They need to hide to keep what they have at the cost of a normal life. How can they say it was worth it?
The greatest treasure is you and what is funny is you don’t need a map, or X marks the spot to find it. See, God is the treasure hunter, He seeks that which are lost and the Cross marks the spot. The Father gave up the only begotten Son, Christ the Son gave up his life, and the Holy Spirit gives the faith without cost to you. God gives up everything for you and now the greatest treasure is yours, eternal life reunited with God as it was supposed to be from the beginning. What is to come is worth more than any amount of silver or gold, plus you don’t need to rub a dusty old lamp. The story is real and not fantasy, but it is a great read for sure. There is so much more to read, hear and seek in this treasure hunt, keep coming to church for the rest of the story.
God bless you today and always.
